u Americans to whom he has imperturbably survived, despite attempts by one or the other to destabilize him. This is the privilege of despots against democratically elected leaders. Despots can at will massacre, barn, disembowel, plunder, enucleate, torture, martyr, and of course rape. An Assad does not move, he stands on unshakable positions and he expects the international deal to be more favorable to him, while serininating the same antiphon.

That of the tyrant of Damascus has been rehashed ad nauseam: there would never have been a popular protest in Syria, but a "terrorist" conspiracy, animated abroad, against a legitimate regime. Macron offered Assad, without compensation to his "aggiornamento", the validation of the heart of the propaganda of the dictatorship. According to the French president, at this stage there would be no "legitimate successor" to Assad and "democracy is not done from the outside without the knowledge of the people". Forgotten, the millions of Syrians who have suffered so much to root on their land alternative institutions to the "barbaric state" of Assad. Moreover, as always faced with a dictatorial system, obsessed with its only survival, it is the first denial that counts. And the Assad regime pocketed him, waiting for the inevitable renunciations that would follow him.
